Pili, a journalist at a community radio station, and Saumu, newspaper journalist at Dar-es-Salaam, share their experiences as women working in the media. In an interesting and intimate discussion, the two journalists share their professional path and the obstacles they face every day as women working in the media and come up with potential solutions directly inspired by their own issues.
This interview takes part in the framework of the UNESCO project “Empowering Local Radios with ICTs”, supported by Sweden, aims to strengthen the capacities of local radio stations to improve the quality and variety of their programmes and broadcasts by increasing the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in order to provide poor populations and marginalized groups – in particular women and girls - with access to quality information on issues of local concern and foster their participation in the public debate by increasing the number of women working as journalist or interviewed as sources and experts.
